You LOVE your design idea, right. Sure you do! It captures the very essence of your personality, reflects your style and feels, well, oh-so-right.
That’s fantastic except when your design is so far “out there,” so quirky, so unique to YOU; it is quite possible that it will impact the re-sale value of your apartment or home.
It’s important to remember that people have very diverse tastes. If your design appeals to just a small segment of the market, then it is only this small segment that will be interested in purchasing your space.
Let’s face it. We live in a time where sellers are using stagers to get their apartment ready for resale and they can honestly work magic. Magic yes but not miracles 🙂
They can help you to make your space look sleek and clean but if you have invested in architectural detailing, special flooring, tiles, bathroom fixtures, kitchen appliances that are “off the grid” then they could possibly derail some potential buyers. Even if these things can be easily renovated and redesigned, it can be difficult for a potential buyer to envision what the space can look like without your very unique fingerprint.
Of course I’m not telling you that you can’t indulge in your design fantasies. After all, we all want to live in surroundings that are comforting and provide pleasure. But consider design elements that can be easily altered so when you are selling you can modify the style to meet the aesthetics of a more broad audience.
